Increased Funding for Rural Public Transportation

Many communities throughout Central Massachusetts lack adequate public transportation options, making it difficult for residents to access employment opportunities, healthcare services, educational institutions, and other essential destinations. Shannon supports expanding public transportation infrastructure to create greater economic opportunities and improve quality of life for residents throughout the district. Shannon will advocate for the construction of East-West Rail to better connect Central and Western Massachusetts with the broader transportation network. Additionally, Shannon supports increased funding for regional transit authorities to improve staffing, expand routes, and provide more reliable service coverage.

Increase State Grants for Rural Road and Bridge Repair

Many roads and bridges throughout the district have fallen into disrepair, creating safety concerns and making travel less efficient for residents and businesses. Shannon supports increasing state grant funding dedicated to rural road and bridge repairs to ensure infrastructure remains safe and reliable. Additionally, Shannon supports investments in flood mitigation measures, including improved drainage systems and stronger barriers, to protect transportation infrastructure from severe weather and climate-related damage.

Universal Access to Rural Broadband and Cell Service

Reliable internet and cellular service are essential for modern life, supporting employment, education, healthcare, emergency response, and economic development. Despite this, many communities across the district continue to experience weak or inconsistent service. Shannon supports expanding state grant programs for broadband infrastructure, increasing investment in fiber-optic networks, and supporting municipal broadband initiatives where private providers have failed to adequately serve residents. Shannon also supports efforts to improve cellular coverage throughout the district to ensure residents can access emergency services and remain connected to their communities.
